#Vacay: San Juan, Puerto Rico

I escaped to Puerto Rico immediately after my junior year of college. I was in such dire need of a break and Puerto Rico offered a quick getaway at an affordable price. I scored a bundle deal through Expedia for only $500! I was fortunate enough to stay at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan. The resort was nothing short of magnificent. It was fully equipped with three pools, beach access, bars, fitness facility, and an on-site Starbucks! Very close to the neighborhood of Condado, an area mirrored with vacant and occupied hotels ready for a swarm of tourists.

Old San Juan is its own little treasure. The pastel buildings of all sizes and styles fill the viejo town like no other. The rustic cobblestone streets and the immaculate blue hues from the cloudless sky made Old San Juan picture perfect. All of the contrasting colors brought this town to life. Walking through Old San Juan was a bit of an adventure. You climb up hill then down hill, walk down one-way streets that led to the ocean! It is a city that is filled with bars and restaurants. Above all, Old San Juan was charming in it’s character with friendly merchants and police officers willing to help with just about anything. A very short trip from my hotel, this city was a great destination.

In Puerto Rico, I ate rice and beans routinely! No matter where you get it, it will always be delicious. I tried with steak and chicken. You can't go anywhere in the Carribean without eating fried plantains! They are the best finger food and inexpensive wherever you find them.

During the 5 days I spent here, I got an amazing tan that left me golden for the rest of the summer. Aside from visiting Old San Juan and laying poolside, I also took a trip to El Yunque Rainforest which you can also read about on my blog. This trip was the perfect start to my summer.Puerto Rico was undeniably amazing.
